Congregate Care Child Care Manual.  This manual was written for child care and social work staff caring for youth in congregate care foster care facilities in New York City.  The manual covers aspects of daily life and policy such as confidentiality, transportation, education, recreation, behavior management, and supervision.  New York State Office of Children and Family Services, 1999.  $6.75

Congregate Care Health Services Manual.  This manual was written for health care staff caring for youth in congregate care foster care facilities in New York City.  Covering both medical and mental health services, the manual presents policies and procedures related to intake, health care maintenance, communicable diseases, medical conditions, emergencies, child abuse and maltreatment, medication administration, and discharge.  Included in the appendices are lists of providers as well as medical standards and protocols.  New York City Administration for Children’s Services, 1998.  $9.00

Finding Funds for AIDS Projects in New York City.  This comprehensive directory of funding sources for AIDS‑related initiatives provides information on foundations, corporations, community grantmakers, and government funders.  It also includes 12 entries of grant sources outside New York City, a list of resources, and a section on writing a proposal narrative.  New York State Department of Health AIDS Institute, New York Community Trust, United Way of New York City, National AIDS Memorial, Michael Palm Foundation, and Broadway Cares/Equity Fights AIDS, 1998 (third edition).  $5.00

Foster/Adoptive Parent Recruitment Brochure, Poster, and Flyer.  The brochure, poster, and flyer are part of a public awareness campaign by the New York State Office of Children and Family Services to recruit foster parents and adoptive parents throughout New York State.  The brochure and flyer give information on becoming a foster parent and on adopting a child.  The theme of the campaign is “A child is waiting…open your heart, open your home.”  The materials are available in English and Spanish.  For copies, write to NYS OTDA, Document Services, 93 Broadway, Menands, NY 12204.  Ask for:

Foster Care Team Manual for Niagara County.  This manual was written for foster care caseworkers, supervisors, and foster parents in Niagara County, New York.  WRI worked closely with foster care staff and foster parents to develop the manual.  Reflecting a team approach to foster care, the manual gives information on placement, Family Court, day-to-day foster parent activities, teamwork and resolving conflict, foster care services, planning for permanency, and related other topics.  New York State Office of Children and Family Services, 1999.  $10.00

Guidebook for the Assessment and Treatment of Adolescent and Pre-Adolescent Sexual Abusers and Sexual Abuse Reactors.  This document presents the results of research into assessment and treatment services for adolescent and pre-adolescent sexual abusers.  Included are chapters on assessment and evaluation, treatment, programs, resources, and a comprehensive bibliography.  Appendices provide information on assessment, assessment instruments, and interagency cooperation.  New York State Office of Children and Family Services, 1998.  $4.50

New York State Service Provider Directory/Summary.  A companion document to the above Guidebook, this directory reflects the findings of WRI’s survey of 85 providers throughout New York State on service modalities, age of clients treated, type of programs offered, geographic regions served, and related topics.  Grids showing the services offered are provided as separate posters for convenient display.  New York State Office of Children and Family Services, 1998.  $4.50

What I Need to Know about Foster Care:  A Handbook for Teens.  Written for youth from age 11 who are about to be placed in foster care, this small handbook covers everything a young person would want to know about being in foster care in Madison County, New York.  Topics include the first day in foster care, how people become foster parents, what happens in court, visiting the birth family, having friends over, smoking, the use of alcohol and drugs, driving, dating, spending money, and similar subjects of interest to youth.  Teens in foster care helped write the handbook.  New York State Office of Children and Family Services, 1997.  Free  For a copy, write to:  Madison County Department of Social Services, P.O. When a Child Needs a Home:  A Handbook for Relatives and Friends.  In 1999, WRI edited and designed a handbook for relatives and friends considering providing a home for children needing to be placed outside their own home.  The handbook, which contains information on the options available to relatives and friends, was funded by the New York State Office of Children and Family Services for use by Tompkins County Department of Social Services.

When Your Child Is In Foster Care:  A Handbook for Parents.  This handbook, When Your Child is in Foster Care, was written for parents whose children are about to be or have been placed in foster care.  The handbook describes different types of placement, explains how children are placed in foster care, and provides information on the rights and responsibilities of parents.  With funding from the New York State Office of Children and Family Services, WRI edited, designed, and printed this handbook for Tompkins County Department of Social Services in 2001.
